Visitors to Baltimore often find inspiration here and many come equipped with a camera, sketchbook or easel. The scenery and unhurried lifestyle have also drawn numerous professional artists and crafts people to West Cork. Quite a few have settled in the congenial surroundings of Baltimore and the islands. Their work can be found on sale at local outlets or sometimes at the artist's own studio, and pieces often depart the area as original and highly prized souvenirs. Some artists also offer courses or workshops at which visitors can hone their own artistic skills. The performing arts, too, are represented by concerts and plays staged periodically through the year.
