While Baltimore itself is not a beach resort, there are some fine beaches in the area. For unspoilt scenery, absence of crowds and golden sands they bear comparison with beaches anywhere in Ireland. It may be a little bit more trouble to get there, but it will be worth it! The nearest beaches to Baltimore are:Silver Strand (Sherkin Island) Take the Sherkin ferry from Baltimore pier. The beach is on the other side of the island. Great for bathing and good for surfing, too, at times.
Reen Strand (Heir Island) Take the Heir Island ferry from Baltimore pier. You can see the strand on the left as the ferry approaches the island. No surfing, but a beautiful safe beach sheltered from the prevailing wind.
Tralispean On the mainland between Lough Hyne and Tragmna. A sheltered cove with a fine sandy beach.
