Baltimore has lovely walks around the village, on the Islands and near Lough Hyne which can be enjoyed "unaccompanied". However, if you're looking for guided walks then join us on the Skibbereen Walking Group's weekly outings (Sundays). Those who have walked with us in previous years (in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation) will remember the walks on Heir Island, Sherkin, Lough Hyne, Trafraska, Beacon.
This year we will revisit Spain Village, the Watch Tower & Baltimore Beacon on Saturday 29th September for an intermediate level (B+/A-) walk with partly roads, boreens and rough ground. Therefore the walk is not suitable for children in buggies and to walk through gorze and on uneven terrain we recommend a minimum age of 15. Sorry dogs are not allowed on these walks. Suitable clothing to include proper walking boots and recommended walking sticks and gaiters.
Meet at Skibbereen Heritage Centre where a bus will transfer walkers to Spain Village at Ballylinchy at 11:30 am and returning later to Skibbereen by 6pm. Alternatively meet us at the end of the road at Spain Village for 12noon.
Walk will include the deserted farmhouses, the signal tower, Trafraska and Baltimore Beacon.
Duration 5 hours - Distance 11 km.
Cost per person is €10 for the transfers and optional donation to the Irish Heart Foundation as people see fit. Complimentary tea / coffee after the walk (prior to bus taking people back to Skibbereen).
Pre-register is essential on www.skibbereen.ie (this is walk 3 on the Skibbereen Walking Festival programme which runs over 3 days from 28th to 30th September.
