Walking Festival - Guided Walks

When: Fri, 27 Sep 2019 - Sun, 29 Sep 2019
Where: Baltimore & Skibbereen Area

Baltimore has lovely walks around the village, on the Islands and near Lough Hyne which can be enjoyed "unaccompanied".  However, if you're looking for guided walks then join us on the Skibbereen Walking Group's weekly outings (Sundays) on the road (easy) and intermediate walks - free of charge for 3 outings after which you have to become a member.  Those who have walked with us in previous years (in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation) will remember the walks on Heir Island, Sherkin, Lough Hyne, Trafraska, Beacon.

For this year's festival there are 7 walks organised, including transport where necessary and a small fee is charged to cover overheads so prebooking is required through the website - link .

On Saturday 28th September we will revisit Sherkin Island for a moderate level walk with partly roads, boreens and rough ground to Slievemore and back to Horseshoe Harbour. Therefore the walk is not suitable for children in buggies and to walk through gorze and on uneven terrain we recommend wearing gaters and using walking stick(s) if you have them.  Sorry dogs are not allowed on these walks.  Suitable clothing to include proper walking boots.

Meet at Skibbereen Heritage Centre (where a bus will transfer walkers to Baltimore Pier for the ferry) - meet at 11:15 am and returning later to Skibbereen by 7pm.

Duration 5 hours -  Distance 10 km and elevation/climb 250 mtrs.

Cost per person is €15

Organised in conjunction with Skibbereen & District Chamber of Commerce and supported by Muintir Skibbereen Credit Union Ltd.
