Heir Island

Heir island (or Hare Island, as it is sometimes known) is the smallest and least populated of the three main islands off Baltimore in West Cork. It is also the one where you can feel furthest from the pressures of everyday life – notwithstanding the fact that the island has a 'capital' called Paris! Only a couple of hundred yards from the mainland, the island is flanked on three sides by Carbery's Hundred Isles. It has no pub, but there is a restaurant, and both B+B and self-catering accommodation. Reen, on the south east side of the island, has an idyllic sandy beach. Heir can be reached by ferry from Baltimore or from Cunnamore.
